Horseback Riding in the Desert Southwest
Experience the beauty of Arizona's Sonoran Desert as it was meant to be seen– from the back of a horse! Ponderosa Stables and South Mountain Stables invite you to take a guided horseback ride on the scenic trails of South Mountain Park. Our unique location and terrain, historic Native American petroglyph sites, and the variety of services we offer are sure to give you a taste of the real Old West.
Generally, our facilities operate on a first-come/first-served basis, but it's always helpful to call ahead and check our daily roster of cookout and hay wagon reservations, and rides to the T-Bone Steak House. |

We suggest that rides of 2 hours or more be completed in the morning, particularly on weekends and holidays, as that is when we tend to be less busy, the temperature is less stressful to our riders and horses, and the resident wildlife is more active and visible. Later in the day, we may be unable to spare guides or horses due to advance reservations by large groups, or because of weather conditions. The two important factors that should be taken into consideration are that: 1) While Ponderosa Stables is open for riding year-round, 7 days a week, South Mountain Stables operates on a seasonal basis, November through May; and 2) Ponderosa Stables closes temporarily on summer days when the temperature reaches 100 degrees, and reopens for riding by reservation only in the early evening. Please be sure to call for any ride during summer.
